Election of the Board
The Chairman of the Board and three deputies are elected every year. At this meeting, two members on the main board will also be elected, as Sadie Cook and Joe Keys have decided to give up their seats.
Announced Candidates
Heiðar Kári Rannversson, Chairman of the board, will run again for the Chairman and Sigríður Regína Sigþórsdóttir will run again for the deputy board.
Being on the Board
The board of the museum is the highest authority in the affairs of Nýló. The board's contribution is voluntary work and those who run for a seat on the board should be able to actively participate in the activities. The board shapes the museum's policy and the main decisions regarding Nýló's activities; for example, the board selects exhibitions and evaluates donations to the museum collection. The board is also responsible for the Museum’s staff as their formal employers. The board meets regularly at meetings where the matters of the museum are reviewed and therefore it is preferred that board members are based in Iceland. Sitting on Nýló's board is an opportunity to make a difference and get your ideas across regarding the museum and directly participate in the exhibition programs and other projects.
Individuals that are interested in serving on the board are asked to announce their candidacy to Nýló's office by sending an e-mail to nylo(at)nylo.is or come forward at the beginning of the meeting.
Other topics:
1. The Living Art Museum's Collection – Current Status and Future Prospects
In recent months, it has become clear that the Living Art Museum's storage facility in Völvufell, Breiðholt, is no longer adequate for storing artworks or as a workspace for the collection manager. The reasons are numerous: the building is scheduled for demolition in the coming years, and consequently, the city has almost ceased all maintenance on the building, which is now badly damaged by deterioration and damp. Furthermore, the heating and electricity have been unreliable for a long time.
It is therefore timely to consider moving the museum's collection in the very near future, and the museum's staff and board have begun preparations for this project. As part of this work, the Living Art Museum accepted an invitation to participate in the Working Group on the Future Arrangement of Storage Facilities for Art Museums in February of this year. The working group consists of Heiðar Kári Rannversson, Chairman of the Board of the Living Art Museum, representatives from the Reykjavík Art Museum, and the City of Reykjavík's Department of Culture and Sports. Additionally, representatives from the National Gallery of Iceland and the Ministry of Culture, Innovation, and Universities will be involved in the work. The person responsible is Arnfríður S. Valdimarsdóttir, Head of the Office of Cultural Affairs for the City of Reykjavík.
The role of the working group is to explore the options for creating a comprehensive future vision for storage space for the Living Art Museum and the Reykjavík Art Museum, and where appropriate, also the National Gallery of Iceland. The working group is expected to begin its work in April and will submit proposals by the end of 2026.
It should be noted that the working group will only submit proposals, which will be presented to the museum's board and representatives before any further decisions are made about the future of the Living Art Museum's collection. Further information about the working group can be found in the Minutes of the Culture and Sports Council meeting on 13/02/2026.
At the meeting, museum representatives will be encouraged to provide comments and ideas regarding the collection – your voice is extremely important as the Living Art Museum's collection is our shared property.
2. Elections and Term of the Living Art Museum's Board – Arrangement and Execution
The arrangement and execution of elections, including phone voting, and whether to change the term length for the chairperson and the board have been discussed at recent annual meetings. It will be proposed that a working group of representatives be established to examine these matters in detail.
All members of the Living Art Museum are welcome. We look forward to seeing you!
