Starting February 20th, The Living Art Museum is calling for registrations for projects in Limbó, the museum's new experimental space for selected dates in the months of May, June, and August. Deadline for registration is ongoing but will close once all available dates are scheduled for this period. Applicants should apply no later than two weeks prior to preferred dates for the project.

With emphasis on processual work and experiments Limbó is conceived as an evolving platform for works in progress, performances, installations, discursive events, public readings, research presentations and various short-term projects seeking public encounters.

Limbó is a platform for artists, curators and others working in the field of contemporary visual art. Projects can range from a few hours and up to a two week period. If a project is approved, the applicant(s) will receive an email from nylo(at)nylo.is, with a confirmation or new date suggestions (fx. in the case of a double booking). Projects may be declined if they don't fit the objectives of the space.

Criteria and objective

The aim is to emphasize process, diversity of perspectives and experiments in contemporary fine art practices. The space is conceived to answer a need for space on short notice, and is not intended as a venue for exhibitions in the sense that we are used to but for projects that challenge the accepted frameworks of public presentations. Limbó is not a space for student projects.

Facilities and contributions of the Living Art Museum:

Limbó is a living space that, in addition to experimental projects, houses the museum's bookstore, reception and other events and groups such as the Living Art Museum's Reading Club. Here is a drawing of the space and the area (yellow) reserved for Limbó projects, but meetings and/or other events can also take place in the space alongside the projects. 

Nýló communicates and presents the projects on all the museum's media, sends announcements to the media, photographs projects/events and handles invigilation. 

Applicants are responsible for the organization and installation, as well as returning the space in the same condition as it was when it was received. The Living Art Museum provides spackle and paint to restore the space after each project, if applicants plan on painting the walls it is their responsibility to paint it back to its original color, and carry out the cost. Install for each project is from 10—17 one to two days before project launch, and deinstall is from 10—17 the day after each project ends. 

A member of Nýló’s current staff will contact you to set up and brief 15-30 minute meeting to discuss the event’s communication and installation 1-2 weeks before the event.

The Living Art Museum's technical equipment is available to applicants if the gear is not already in use.
