Introduction to the Friends of Nýló program and unveiling of the work of the year.

Join us for an introduction to the Friends of Nýló program on Saturday, December 6, from 5-7 PM. Fritz Hendrik IV is the friend's artist for 2025, and it will be possible to see a new work he has created for the museum, titled Wait.

Since 2016, The Living Art Museum has commissioned outstanding artists to create an editioned work for the Friends of Nýló; a group of people who annually support the museum's ambitious activities. The first Friend Artist was Hreinn Friðfinnsson, followed by Anna Júlía Friðbjörnsdóttir, Unndór Egill Jónsson, Arna Óttarsdóttir, Guðjón Ketilsson, Melanie Ubaldo, Eygló Harðardóttir, and Amanda Riffo, who have all created works for the museum.

About the artist:

Fritz Hendrik IV (b. 1993) has been actively involved in the Icelandic art scene since graduating from the Iceland Academy of the Arts in 2016. Hendrik works across painting, sculpture, video and installation, investigating how perception and context shape our experience of the world. He often develops exhibitions where individual works come together as a conceptual whole, while allowing meaning to shift depending on context and perspective. His practice combines intellectual inquiry with a sense of playfulness, drawing equally on philosophical ideas and everyday experiences. A strong interest in craftsmanship runs through his work, where traditional methods and handwork coexist with contemporary approaches and experimental technologies. He has exhibited widely in Iceland and internationally, including in New York, Amsterdam, Helsinki, Tokyo, and Moscow. His works are included in the public collections of the National Gallery of Iceland, the Reykjavík Art Museum, Hafnarborg, and Gerðarsafn.
