Opening: Last Museum (Reykjavík edition)

Welcome to the opening of Last Museum (Reykjavik edition) saturday June 11, at 4—6 pm.

The Last Museum is (to borrow a term from computer engineering) a ‘stack’. This stack encompasses land, sculpture, code, user experience, and more. The featured artworks straddle all such layers: Each artist was commissioned to author a sculptural group, to be installed at a physical site of their own choosing. Their interventions were then videoed and the resulting clips brought together as an interactive sequence online.
As a novel exhibition format, The Last Museum blurs the line between cinema and sculpture, while exploring the potential of ‘web-site-specificity’. Accessed through www.nylo.is its Reykjavik Edition exhibition features a new commission by Egill Saebjörnsson—alongside contributions by artists from seven other countries. The website also materializes here, in the gallery, accompanied by works from Saebjörnsson’s oeuvre. These plot the artist’s longstanding engagement with virtual reality.

Artists:

Egill Sæbjörnsson ásamt Nora Al-Badri, Nicole Foreshew, Juliana Cerqueira Leite, Jakrawal Nilthamrong, Zohra Opoku, and Charles Stankievech, Petros Moris

Curator:

Nadim Samman

Last Museum (Reykjavík edition) is a part of Reykjavik Art Festival, initiated by and produced in collaboration with KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
