Sequences real time art festival will be held for the ninth time in Reykjavík October 11-20. 34 artists participate in the program, which this time spans a wide field of music, text, film, installations, drawings and sculpture to name a few.
Excerpt from curators’ statement:
“We would not be able to confine ourselves to real-time or time-based media, which is the original intention of the festival. Our areas of interest and expertise are wide and fragmented, but not especially voiced in that area. We chose to split the concepts real-time and explore their individual relativity with works created in various mediums. We hope to start a dialogue with our guests through the works presented, their diverse interaction and their multifaceted fields of meaning.”
“We have chosen four varied individuals to comment and respond differently to our foundational ideas. Exhibition visitors then add their vision and experience. This is a proposal, an open event for reflection on our place in time.”

Kristinn Guðbrandur Harðarson (b. 1955) has been selected as the festival´s honorary artist. He has been active in the Icelandic art scene for a long while. In his works a personal and poetic processing of the artist’s close environment is positioned within various mediums including texts, embroidery, sculpture, wall mural, cartoons and performances. A solo exhibition presenting his new work, will open at Ásmundarsalur on friday October 11, at 17.00. This is the first in a series of openings on Sequences ix.
The official programme takes place at seven different exhibition spaces around Reykjavík and an extensive off-venue programme will be hosted by artists and exhibition spaces during the festival. For further information please visit www.sequences.is.
